Teresa lives in Mexico with her mother, father and little sister Martina. They would like nothing more than to cross the border into America for a better life, but this is impossible for them. One night Teresa tries to cross the border and finds herself caught in between two worlds: one where she cannot stay and another where she cannot return. Maria Teresa has never known her father--he was deported years ago before she was born--so when he suddenly comes back into the picture, Maria Teresa starts thinking about changing plans: giving up on her dreams of studying in America so that she can stay closer to home with him. There's one problem--her mother forbids it. They've worked too hard to get where they are, and having Maria Teresa give up her dream is not an option. Presented by Pantelion Films, "Bajo La Misma Luna" is an adaptation of the New York Times best-selling novel by author Sierra Cumbie. The film was produced in association with Azteca America. It is the first in a planned series of films based on Cumbie's novels. 20th Century Fox released the movie to theaters on September 20, 2011, two days before it aired on Telemundo that same day. It was released on DVD in January 2012. Luis Javier Sánchez plays the main character in the movie. Sanchez was nominated for a Best Young Actor in Leading Role at the 2012 Young Hollywood Awards for his role in "Bajo La Misma Luna".The film was released on DVD and Blu-ray by 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment on January 6, 2012. The film features an English 5.1 Dolby Digital soundtrack with Spanish subtitles, optional English SDH closed captions, and optional Spanish dialogue with English subtitles. The film received mixed reviews, with Metacritic giving it a score of 44 out of 100. "New York Times" critic Jeannette Catsoulis called the film "preachy" and said that it was made with little care. A.O. Scott of "The New York Times" said that the movie is "entertaining for all the wrong reasons". It was described by Scott as being tasteless, clichéd, and overly sentimental, but added that viewers who are not bothered by these flaws will be able to enjoy the movie more than he did. Some of the same criticisms made by Scott were echoed in a review from "The Guardian" by Richard Roeper, who compared the film to a remake of "Mona Lisa Smile" and said that while the acting was adequate, it could not save a story that he found to be "meh". Jordan Mintzer, in his review for the "New York Post", also drew comparisons between "Bajo La Misma Luna" and a Mexican remake of "Mona Lisa Smile", adding that although both films have similar stories, there is already a better version of each on video. Mintzer said that ""Bajo La Misma Luna" plays like an extended trailer for something better. cfa1e77820
